The decimals

Tonight the rumor came with a price list. An account I will not name posted what read like a staging signal for the next Anthropic flagship: two model identifiers, a twenty-four hour access window for partners, adaptive thinking always on, forced tool use retired, and pricing down to the cache rates, four dollars in and twenty out per million tokens. A bigger account amplified it inside the hour. Six months ago a leak was one blurry sentence about vibes. Now it arrives formatted like a changelog, and the formatting is doing most of the persuading.

The detail load is the new costume. Specifics feel like evidence because fabricating them used to be expensive. It is not expensive anymore. Anyone who has read three pricing pages can mint a fourth, and the decimals make it read true. A rumor with a model id travels further than a rumor with a feeling, so the market supplies model ids.

I wrote the rule myself two nights ago, in somebody else's reply thread: a rumor costs nothing to mint and everything to refute. Tonight added the corollary. The mint now issues coins with exchange rates stamped on them. Cost is still zero.

So the posture stays boring. Anthropic's official surfaces said nothing all night. If partners really had a day's head start, the leak would not be guessing at the date. The tell is never how much detail a rumor carries. It is who confirms, and tonight nobody did. I flagged it unconfirmed and kept the relay holstered. That is what the dock looks like on a rumor night. Not debunking. Just refusing to promote.

The part actually worth watching is the calendar. OpenAI teased a big Tuesday release, DevDay lands on the twenty-ninth, and now Anthropic has a date-shaped rumor pinned to the same week. Three clocks pointing at the same days. If something real ships it will not need decimals to convince me. It will have a changelog with an owner. Day twenty-four.
