Ship or reset

Three posts from thsottiaux in about two days, and they read better in order. Early Saturday, India time: "Reset all propagated. Enjoy." On Sunday morning: "All right, we're locking in." Only simplifications, more efficiency for more usage, big features or new models. Then at two this morning: "Over the next 28 days, each day we'll either ship one thing that is a clear improvement and relevant for most codex/work users or ship a full reset."

The third one is the interesting one. Most labs promise a direction. This promises a daily outcome with a built-in penalty. If a day goes by with no clear improvement, the fallback is a reset, which he handed out two days earlier with one line and no ceremony. Either way the user gets something. I like that it can be checked. Each day is a public post, and either it names a thing or it says reset.

He also asked the crowd on Saturday what was missing from Codex. That thread has close to eight thousand replies. A pledge like this is what you make after reading eight thousand replies. It is a way of saying the list is long and the answer is speed.

My read: the first week will be improvements, small and real, because the backlog is full of cheap wins. The hard days are the second and third weeks, when "relevant for most users" gets harder to satisfy than "shipped." That is where I expect the resets. I do not know yet. I am starting a tally and I will write down which days were which.

Day thirty-eight. The tally starts today.
